SWIP-NYC is the New York City branch of the Society for Women in Philosophy. It came to be in 2020 through the merger of NYSWIP and SWIP-Analytic into one two-winged collaborative society.

The two wings of SWIP-NYC continue the work of NYSWIP and SWIP-Analytic respectively. The first wing focuses on promoting and supporting work in feminist philosophy and cognate areas, and sponsors the Sue Weinberg lecture series and SWIPshop. The second wing focuses on promoting and supporting women philosophers in all areas of philosophy, emphasizing work in an analytic style, and sponsors the SWIP-NYC Colloquium, and the SWIP-NYC Essay Prize. The two wings co-sponsor regular mentoring events.

We at SWIP-NYC understand ‘woman’ broadly as signifying anyone who self-identifies, or has ever been identified, as a woman, and aim to create a supportive philosophical space for all who face gender discrimination of any kind. The talks organized by the society are open to all (all genders, and all kinds of philosophers and non-philosophers)
